Ministry Opportunities

St. Vincent De Paul Society/Cliff Steinbach Food Pantry

The  organization’s purpose is to reach out to the needy in the  neighborhood of our Church and provide them with emergency groceries. Some monetary assistance can also be given for utility bill payments. The Pantry can also provide vouchers for furniture, household items, and clothing to be used at St. Vincent de Paul stores located throughout the city. The Pantry is located on the ground floor of the St. Anne’s Center, 3006 West Eighth Street. The hours of operation are Monday and Friday from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Parishioner donated grocery items can be left in the Church vestibule or taken to the Ministry Center. Monetary donations can be placed in the St. Vincent de Paul poor boxes located in the back of Church or labeled with the name of the Pantry and placed in the Sunday collection basket.

Pantry volunteers are always welcomed. If you would like to volunteer, or if you or someone you know needs the services provided by the Food Pantry, please contact Diana Penick or Dan Dittmann through the Parish Office. There are no regularly scheduled meetings.  Meetings are held as needed.

Bereavement Committee

This group serves the needs of the grieving family. A member of this ministry meets with the family of the deceased and assists them in arranging all aspects of the Funeral Mass. The direction provided by this group allows the family to make necessary personal decisions without the burden of detailed planning at their time of loss. When possible, the committee visits the funeral home and conducts a prayer service. Members also plan the Annual Memorial Mass usually held in October offered for all deceased parishioners, but especially for those who have died during the current year.

Contact Sarah Zieverink at 574-3438 for further information.

Hospital Visitation

The purpose of this ministry is to visit parishioners who are recuperating at The Mercy Hospital Western Hills. Members representing the parish visit those who are ill. Patients and their families sincerely appreciate the caring and concerned nature of this short hospital visit. (Eucharistic visits are made by the pastoral staff.)

If you would like to visit the sick of our parish, contact Rita Knox at 921-7691.

Arimatheans

This ministry is named after Joseph of Arimathea, the man who helped bury Jesus. Arimatheans are asked to be present for the Mass of Christian Burial of fellow parishioners. It is a quiet ministry, no attendance requirements, no meetings, no dues, but members take their obligation seriously — to be present at the funeral liturgies when their schedule permits.

If this ministry sparks your interest, contact Pat Kiffmeyer at 471-5714 for more information.

Home Communion To The Sick/Homebound

The role of a Eucharistic Minister to the Sick and Homebound is to bring communion to the homes of parishioners who are not capable of attending the Sunday liturgy. Spiritual comfort and a caring demeanor are present at each visit.

Help is always welcome. Contact Fr. Jim  at 921-7527 ext 104 if you would like to assist.

Parish Life and Service

This group coordinates the schedule of activities for parish service organizations. These organizations often blend their time and talents to carry out parish projects such as the Memorial Mass reception, the parish Giving Tree, and the parish Christmas Gift Program for our shut-in, homebound, and nursing home residents.

Contact Carol Sullivan at 921-7072 for more details.

Pro-life/Family Life Action Group

The purpose of this organization is to promote and organize support for the Pro-Life Movement, to keep our parishioners advised of programs and activities sponsored by the Archdiocesan Family Life Office, and to continue to bring to the front the consistent Pro-Life ethics of the Catholic Church.
